Hey guys, long time no journal!  (Woof, I'm bad at this, aren't I )

I just quickly want to say thank you all for a great 2019!  Your faves, comments, and watches mean so much to me and inspire me to work hard and create lovely art for you all.  I'm excited to report that 33 pieces I submitted here this year have garnered over 100 faves apiece, which makes me super happy   I'm glad you guys are enjoying what I'm creating!

More lovely stuff is coming in 2020--mostly NiGHTS stuff, naturally, but keep your eyes peeled for art from other favorite series of mine as well.  And don't forget, this is the year when the NiGHTS storybook sequel project is set to be released!  It'll be a one-time release (meaning the whole project will be posted at once, NOT on a page-by-page basis), and I will announce a release date depending on my schedule.  I'm very excited for this project, as it'll be pretty much my first real foray into creating a short-form illustrated storybook.  I hope you'll all enjoy it, and that I do a good job emulating the style of the original illustrator~

HELLO I HAVE RETURNED~

I was tagged by the fantastic StarlyteNight to do an FC/OC Q&A-type thingee.  It's a perfect opportunity to drag one of my NiGHTS FCs out of storage and show him off to anyone who'd like to indulge my AU concepts for awhile, teehee~

Without further ado, meet the winged deerboy of your dreams.  Pangelis, firstborn of the White Ideya, Keeper of Wind and Sky, protector of Visitors and apparently counselor for wayward Maren youths, lol.  Need better refs of him, but here are some scribbles he's appeared in, just so you have a vague idea of what he looks like:

1. What is your name?

"I am Pangelis, firstborn of the White Ideya, Keeper of Wind and Sky, the Caeli of Purity.  Du sacre, bene ti.  It's good to meet you!"

2. Do you know why are you named that?

"It is a name that indicates my rank amongst my brethren.  Purity is the core of all Ideya, and I, in a certain way, am the core of our assembly."

3. Are you single or taken?

"We Caeli are not permitted romantic engagements."

4. Have any abilities or powers?

"Yes!  I have command over the wind and skies of my realms.  I may speak to Visitors through the White Ideya, and guide them in their ways.  Through my wings I may project myself to many different realms at once, all while remaining here at my altar in the shrine.  If our hearts are perfectly aligned, I grant the Visitors power to fight against any encroaching nightmare creatures--more so if they are lucid!"

5. Stop being Mary Sue.

"I'm not sure who that is.  Is she a friend of yours?"

6. What's your eye color?

"A blue that matches the color of the sky on a flawless day."

7. What's your hair color?

"Few have ever seen it--we Caeli rarely remove our headdresses.  But I can tell you, mine is a mass of tumbling white curls, like the clouds of the sky..."

8. Have any family members?

"My brethren here at the shrine--Lumenis, Sapiensis, Sentianis, and Voliaris.  Together we keep watch over the realms of Nightopia."

9. How about pets?

"None, until recently.  Thanks to the playful insistence of a frequent guest of ours, we have acquired not one but two cats, Azuris and Nyxi.  They keep each other company in our gardens."

10. That's cool, I guess. Now tell me something you don't like.

"If a Visitor's heart is closed to any of us, we cannot help them in their distress.  That in turn causes us great pain."

11. Do have any activities/hobbies that you like to do?

"Most of my time is spent in the shrine.  But I project myself into many dreams, to accompany Visitors as they sleep.  I enjoy their company and their dreamscapes immensely!  And on my leisure time, well...there is pleasure to be found in flying freely in the skies of the upper realms."

12. Have you ever hurt anyone in anyway?

"I suppose I have, in my skirmishes with the Nightmarens..."

13. Ever... killed anyone?

"Sometimes our battles have ended in death.  Retreat is a much more desired outcome, but if there is no other recourse..."

14. What kind of animal are you?

"Not so much an animal, but not a man either.  I am a Caeli, after all.  Some Visitors have compared me to a creature called a 'peryton' due to my wings and my antlers.  It is a fair comparison!"

15. Name your worst habits.

"It is not in a Caeli's better interests to reveal weaknesses.  But Voliaris insists that sometimes I am too idealistic when it comes to certain charges--and that one in particular.  As the Caeli of Purity, it is my responsibility to discover and nurture the better nature in everyone I meet.  But perhaps I could stand to be more cautious..."

16. Do you look up to anyone at all?

"My brethren are great inspiration to me.  Particularly Lumenis.  Purity and Hope often work in tandem with each other.  His sincerity, and his shared optimism for 'those two,' are truly uplifting."

17. Are you gay, straight or bisexual?

"We Caeli do not experience any such attractions.  But we do experience a great, enduring love for all who come into our realms with good will."

18. Do you go to school?

"No, but every dream is an opportunity for a good lesson!"

19. Ever want to get married and have kids one day?

"We Caeli are neither dimorphic nor reproductive as a species...so no.  But we do consider the Visitors and the children of our realms [Nightopians] to be a responsibility of ours, as if they were our own children."

20. Do you have any fangirls/fanboys?

"The children of our realms are usually very glad to see us when we fully manifest to them.  Many times they leave us little gifts at the altars in our realms, and they accompany us on our frequent dream walks [a prayer ritual in dormant dreamscapes].

...and there are times when I catch a guest of ours looking at me with that certain look of wonder in his eyes.  He is embarrassed to be caught and even more so when he is called on it, so I've pretended not to notice."

21. What are you most afraid of?

"...there is an event, a far-off event, that I hope will not come to pass.  But whether it does or doesn't, there will be trouble ahead..."

22. What clothes do you usually wear?

"It is rich, princely attire, in the color of my birth Ideya, and the tones of my domain [the sky].  A headdress, as well, which doubles as a helmet in battle.  Heeled boots, but not while dream-walking--then I go barefoot, as an act of humility, oneness with the dream, and reverence for the presence of the light of the beyond, the light which grants all Ideya their power."

23. What's one food that tempts you?

"We Caeli do not require sustenance the way Visitors do, but certain foods do please us.  Sometimes sweets are left at our altars--I enjoy those best!"

24. What class are you (low/middle/high)?

"I suppose it would be high class.  We are princes and guardians of our realms, but it is a life of service more than being served."

25. What are your thoughts on pie?

"If it is left at my altar, I will enjoy it!  Sometimes our guest sneaks back food he has acquired in one of our realms--it seems he enjoys sweets more than any of us!"

26. Favorite drink?

"Tea.  Lumenis creates many wonderful, fragrant brews."

27. What's your favorite place?

"I have experienced many beautiful dreams.  I could hardly choose a favorite..."

28. Are you interested in anyone?

"I...I believe I've already covered the details of this situation..."

29. That was a stupid question.

"Do not worry.  But, maybe pay a little closer attention!"

30. Would you rather swim in a lake or the ocean?

"The ocean.  It is so deep and vast!  Certainly Sentianis would agree, as it is his domain."

"...is that another reference to relationships?  If so, I will ignore it.  Pay attention!"

32. Camping or outdoors?

"Outdoors--but, if you are camping, would you not already be outdoors...?  Regardless, to sleep under the night sky, in the presence of the stars, is one of the greatest of life's pleasures, whether in dreams or the waking!"

Hello friendos!  Popping in for a quick journal entry to talk a little bit more about a project I am undertaking.  If you're a NiGHTS fan--and most of you are, I presume--then this should come as exciting news!

Presenting NiGHTS: A Song of Courage in the Night Sky!  Or in Japanese, NiGHTS: ~夜空に勇気の歌~　(Yozora ni Yuuki no Uta)

Over the course of the next year, I will be developing a fan-made sequel to the original official NiGHTS storybook that was released in 1996.  As the first book chronicled the adventures of Elliot in Nightopia, this book will focus on Claris' adventure, effectively picking up where the original story left off. 

I'll be adapting my art style somewhat in order that it more closely resemble the style of the original illustrator, SEGA artist Takumi Miyake--not an easy task, to be sure, but definitely a challenge I look forward to undertaking!   This book will be approximately the same length as the original, and the plots will mirror each other in terms of structure and narrative style.

At this point the basic outline of the story has been mapped out, and I am in the process of writing the narrative as it will appear in the finished book.  Once that is finalized, the illustration process can begin.  I hope you guys will like my retelling of Claris' story!  It will feature a certain caped Nightmaren as a primary antagonist, lol.  His crazy laughter will most likely amplify poor Claris' anxiety about her upcoming audition...

The projected release date for this book is Summer 2020--one year from now.  However, if it's finished before then, you'll get it earlier!  No sense in making everyone wait--I'm too impatient to hold onto finished art that long anyway   I will most likely be posting promos, teasers, and development updates on my Twitter account, so you should follow me there if you haven't already.  I won't be giving too much away up front, though--I want it to be a surprise, and avoid spoilers as much as possible!

As for where it will be posted upon completion?  I haven't decided yet.  Maybe here on dA, but I was thinking of a pixiv account because they let you post multiple pages in a single upload.  I also may consider asking for hosting...but we'll see!

Hey guys!  Just popping in with a little bit of a life update.  Not that too much is happening, but I realized that unless you're following me on Twitter you really don't hear from me too often!  By the way, you should TOTALLY follow me on Twitter, just sayin'~

A new season is upon us!  Glorious spring!  Although where I live we seem to be experiencing a premature heat wave of sorts, oof!  But I gotta say, it's nice to not have to deal with the cold anymore.  I'm looking forward to everything blooming and being lovely--not looking forward to the pollen, though, lol

Easter is coming up in a few short weeks too!  And I'm happy to say that I'm finally sorting out a proper Easter costume for NiGHTS   It occurred to me recently that for all the seasonal costumes I've designed for him, I've yet to create anything spring or Easter-related.  That will soon change!  I think you're all going to like what I have in store~

On a similar note, I'd like to thank everyone who's been faving my recent pieces "PUPPET" and "FiNAL NiGHT"!  They were the result of a rather interesting brainstorm I had concerning alternate ending sequences for JoD.  I like the idea of more starkly divergent and dramatic scenarios than the ones we got in the final game.  A fanfic is being planned for at least one of these scenarios--possibly both, if I'm up to the task!  It's been a good long while since I've written any convincing prose, so I'm eager to get started on that.  Look for it around the end of April/beginning of May!  Let the plotting begin...

Also a bit of a PSA: If you hang around my Tumblr account you may realize it's no longer actively maintained.  I'm sort of stepping away from the platform for awhile, so if you don't see me posting my art there too often, that's why!  dA and Twitter have become my main hub for activity and art updates, so keep watching my gallery for my latest artistic pursuits!  I have some really lovely things planned for the rest of this year, and I can't wait to dig into my giant to-do list and create more art for you all to enjoy!

Hey guys!  Happy to see you all again, and hope this entry finds you well.  The holiday season is upon us at last!  A time for merriment, snow, pretty lights, time with loved ones, sweets and treats of all kinds...  And if you're a NiGHTS fan (and you must be, because why else would you be here?), that means it's time for "Christmas NiGHTS"!  Whether you're playing the original Saturn version or the HD port (hint: the Saturn version has more goodies and surprises), you're in for a fun, festive time.  It was such a nice little present from Sonic Team back in the day, wasn't it?  And to think we still get enjoyment out of it all these years later--either Sonic Team truly created a timeless masterpiece, or we're all just nuts, lol.  In any case, have fun saving that Christmas star, everyone!  And make sure to keep up with your holly jolly NiGHTS art this season--I know I've got some nice stuff planned for you all, in addition to the pictures I've already posted, so keep an eye out for that!  

Oooh, also!  December 13 marks the 11th anniversary of NiGHTS: Journey of Dreams!  If anyone is interested in marking the occasion with lovely art, please do so!  And hey, it's now eleven years since JoD, and JoD came out eleven years after NiD.  Oooh, I WONDER I WONDER!  I guess we'll wait and see~
